Fluoride hazards in recent years studies in correlation to fluorosis and possible MIH incidence with their consequent human health influence, especially in early life exposure, implies the discussion of innovative different topical mediators’ substitutes in dental caries prevention application models with proved encouraging achievement in international experiences.
Hydroxyapatite (HAp) preparation provide the same benefits of fluoride without exposing to its risks, it is a stable and biocompatible calcium phosphate with low solubility and proved since long a crucial role in structural bone regeneration, besides that evidenced potency in recent years through oral care applications agents with the same principle of enhancing calcium-phosphate hydroxyapatite crystals build-up. This presentation narrative review articles aimed to summarize the recent findings of researches’ investigation in vitro, vivo and situ studies for toothpaste and professional applied HAp agents’ competence on enamel remineralization and plaque metabolism inhibition scale versus fluoridated preparations.
